February 1, 1168 – Wedding of Matilda of England, daughter of King Henry II of England, and Heinrich the Lion, Duke of Saxony and Bavaria at Minden Cathedral in the Duchy of Saxony, now in Saxony, Germany
Matilda was the eldest daughter of King Henry II of England and Eleanor of Aquitaine.  Matilda and Heinrich had four sons and two daughters.  Through their youngest son Wilhelm, born in Winchester in 1184 during a visit to England, they became ancestors in the direct male line of the House of Hanover.
